I'm a computational social scientist with 7+ years of research experience in urban data science, public policy, and human behavior. I thrive on diving into data to reveal insights and craft compelling stories.

In my PhD research at Northeastern University, I studied inequities in housing using 'big' data and computational social science methodologies at multiple scales of geography. My most recent work focused on uncovering ownership obscurity in order to study landlords' strategies of social and physical property management. I used fuzzy-matching to connect tax assessment and corporation records to accurately link landlords and investors to their portfolios of properties.

I'm also a runner (yes, I get "Run Forrest Run!" a lot). I've never raced a marathon (maybe that'll change in 2024) and skipped right to ultramarathons. If you know who Jim Walmsley, Zach Miller, or Tim Tollefson are then we'll be best friends. Right now I'm training to beat my highschool mile time by the end of this year.

Forrest Hangen

Data Scientist | PhD

I'm a Data scientist (PhD) with 6+ years of experience building data products and rigorous analyses for decision-making. Extensive research experience in urban data science, public policy, and human behavior. Expert in end-to-end ownership, product analytics, and communicating insights to non-technical partners. I thrive on diving into data to reveal insights and craft compelling stories.

Currently a Data Scientist at Phressia Network Solutions. I own end-to-end data product development and analytics to support internal team operations and decision-making. Among other projects, I've built an agent-based model for delivering optimal ad campaign pacing scenarios, cut and ETL pipeline runtime ~10x over 6M+ records by optimizing multi-keyword search with Aho-Corasick, implemented time-series forecasting for medication adherence, and classified free-text survey responses to add actionable response options across 4M+ responses/year.

I'm also a runner (yes, I get "Run Forrest Run!" a lot) now turned cyclist. Basically any endurance event, I'm in. If you know who Jim Walmsley, Courtney Dauwalter, or Keegan Swenson are then we'll be best friends. Right now I'm training to set the cycling FKT on the Erie Canal (360 miles in less than 25 hours).
